My husband and I stayed at the Horizon in Karon in August, it was our first trip overseas and on first impressions we were impressed, the room was a bit tired, in need of an update, the spa was fantastic I had a gorgeous three hour treatment there and the girls were lovely, but it was a bit rushed at the end. The reception staff were a bit stuck up, the breakfast staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you, they asked us for our email address and wanted to keep in touch but we have since found out they do this to all the guests. I did write to two of them since coming home but didn't hear back so it does leave you feeling a bit flat and as if the "wanting to keep in touch" thing is a bit of an act to get you to go back there, as that was another question that was constantly asked of us. We are going back next year and meeting up with friends, but we are all thinking of staying somewhere else as it is hard to tell if all the fussing and fawning over is genuine or not. The walk back up the hill is a killer if you are not used to the humidity, but the house phone at the bottom of the hill to ring for a tuk-tuk is a life line!! As many other people have commented on different sites for this resort, there are lots of stairs and steps, it is a bit annoying that the pool closes at eight and if you are in it at five past eight the security guards just stand and stare at you, come on guys, it is hot and humid and we Aussies need to cool off!!! There is a strong smell of sewage around the pool during the day, couldn't quite work that one out, the breakfast is good, especially the custom made omelettes, but take your own soy milk, from your home country, if you don't drink dairy, because it is not available there and the stuff you buy at the seven eleven tastes like dirt. The butter isn't real butter but I think a margarine blend which my husband found fine but grossed me out, and the food at the restaurant is very average and expensive compared the fantastic noodle places at the bottom of the hill. To get to the cafes you turn right at the bottom of the hill and run the gauntlet of the massage places, but the girls in the first one just near the taxi rank are great and they also have a very cheap laundry service. The jury is still out on whether we stay there again or not, but we are definitely returning to Phuket as it is truly amazing!!!
